A History of Our Church

The new church consisted of 32 charter members and met at the National Guard Armory, Flying Chef Restaurant and Beauxart Garden Community House.
The original church structure was built in 1958 at the present site, 3515 Helena. The church parsonage, originally located at 512 28th Street, has been replaced with a newer structure on church property. Other construction projects included building a sanctuary (which was subsequently damaged in Hurricane Rita and which is now being replaced by a new sanctuary) and creating a concrete parking lot.
The Christian Life Center, or CLC as it became called, was dedicated in early 2000. It was yet another long-term dream fulfilled by many of Wesley’s faithful members.
In 2005, Wesley's sanctuary was heavily damaged by hurricane Rita. After Rita, the church worshipped in the Christian Life Center while constructing a new sanctuary. By August 3, 2008, the sanctuary was sufficiently complete to allow the church to begin to worship there. Ironically, the consecration service of the new sanctuary, planned for September 21, 2008, was postponed due to the arrival of hurricane Ike.
Wesley is a church filled with warm friendly people dedicated to the service of God. Our church family gladly welcomes all those seeking God, religious fellowship and support in facing life's problems. Wesley offers full bible study classes for both children and adults as well as special fellowships for all. We welcome you to come and join us in worship and fellowship at our next gathering time. We know you will find Wesley to be the kind of caring and loving church you would want to belong to.
