Juern Technology
How Juern Technology Scaled its Managed Security Services with Vade
About Juern Technology
Juern Technology is a US-based managed security service provider (MSSP) with offices in San Antonio and Austin. The company is a complete technology solution provider for small-to-midsized businesses (SMBs) with 50 to 1000 employees in construction, non-profit, commercial real estate, and healthcare industries. Founded in 2012, Juern Technology became an MSSP in 2022 after a decade of providing managed IT services.
Background
Neal Juern founded Juern Technology in 2012. A sole proprietorship, the company offered break-fix services to local businesses before transitioning to managed services. The company focused on serving several key markets in San Antonio, including construction, healthcare, government, and commercial real estate. By 2016, Juern Technology hired its first employees. Three years later, the company started the process of becoming an MSSP.
Juern Tech’s transition to managed security services was a natural response to an evolution in the market. Increased regulatory and compliance requirements were pressuring businesses to step up their cybersecurity. Awareness about the prevalence and risks of cyberattacks was also increasing among SMBs.
Juern Tech’s healthcare customers faced stringent requirements for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), its clients in the financial industry for Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance and consumer laws, and its government clients for the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC). “Cybersecurity is probably more important here than any other city in the US,” said the executive at Juern Tech. “Businesses have been starting to take cybersecurity more seriously, but they’re also beginning to realize they have a misconception about what it entails.”

THE CHALLENGE
By 2019, Juern Tech was offering three tiers of managed security services to clients. One of the company’s small customers opted for the base package. “It provided a decent level of security,” said Juern, “but of course it was not our top option.”
The decision proved pivotal for Juern Technology and its client after it became the victim of a Trickbot ransomware attack. The event encrypted the company’s PDFs and halted operations. “The attack caused significant issues. We had an endpoint security solution which prevented full encryption, but recovery was messy,” said Neal Juern.
“When we met with them, they said, ‘we thought we were protected.’ That’s when we realized that we couldn’t offer tiers because that left the choice to the customer. In the end, the customer will always blame us for anything that goes wrong, so we might as well provide them with the best security tools.”
For Neal Juern, the incident was an awakening call. “After that we changed our business completely,” the founder said. “We invested in the proper tools and began the process to become an MSSP.”
WHY JUERN TECHNOLOGY CHOSE VADE
- Advanced, real-time threat detection and filtering
- API-based integration with Microsoft 365
- Automated and advanced user awareness training
- Low-touch cybersecurity
THE SOLUTION
As Juern Technology began assembling its cybersecurity stack, it sought an advanced email security solution capable of handling all types of email-borne threats, including phishing campaigns and spear-phishing attacks, also known as business email compromise (BEC). At the same time, the company needed a solution that worked in the background and wouldn’t disrupt normal email flow with email quarantine or unnecessary delays. “End users hate quarantine,” said Juern. “We wanted to improve user experience, which would reduce our ticket count. It was also important for us to find a solution that could handle BEC attacks.”
When Juern Technology heard about Vade for M365, it investigated the solution. The product met all the company’s requirements. “Several factors attracted us to it,” Juern said. “Vade for M365 provides a great user experience. It doesn’t require an MX record change, which means it’s invisible to hackers. And it can handle BEC attacks efficiently, which are difficult to detect.”
Vade for M365 is an AI-based email security solution for Microsoft 365 that integrates with the Microsoft 365 via REST API. The solution features robust post-delivery features that provide continuous protection, remediation capabilities, and managed service capabilities for MSPs. Leveraging a core set of AI technologies, including Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing algorithms, the solution uses behavioral analysis to block advanced zero-day phishing attacks, targeted spear phishing attempts, and polymorphic malware and ransomware.

- Vade Threat Coach™: Delivers automated, contextual training sessions when users interact with phishing emails.
- Threat Intel & Investigation: Provides the integrations, intel, and tools to investigate and respond to email-borne threats transiting through networks.
RESULTS
After Juern adopted Vade for M365, it began noticing a significant improvement in its clients’ email security. “We didn’t hear anything from our clients in terms of their email,” said Juern. “That’s the best feedback. This means the solution is seamless enough to avoid frustration from customers. And we haven’t had any ransomware since 2019, so the solution works.”
The absence of customer complaints has created key benefits for Juern Technology. “Our team deals with fewer tickets and less frustration among clients that hate quarantine,” Juern said.
“There’s less burnout as a result. We used to get tickets due to emails missing, bouncing, or not being received. Those are the tickets where our clients are most frustrated. And Vade has allowed us to avoid them altogether.” Today, Juern resolves 85 percent of its tickets the same day of submission and averages two hours per resolution.
While Juern Technology assists clients with complex projects such as cloud migrations and large network upgrades, it also provides them with full-service managed security. The company has assembled a fully integrated cybersecurity stack. In addition to delivering the AI-based threat detection and response of Vade for M365, Juern Technology also provides clients with 24/7 threat monitoring and remediation, zero trust security including application control and whitelisting, daily backups with verification, quarterly threat hunting services, vulnerability and dark web scanning, and more.
In just over 10 years since opening its doors, Juern Technology has grown from a one-person operation to a thriving business with two offices. And the company has aggressive growth plans. “Our company is looking to triple in size,” said Juern. “At the moment we have 2200 managed mailboxes, and we’re preparing to grow to 7000. Every one of our customers will need Vade.”
Vade has helped grow our managed security services. With Vade’s solution, our clients are happier and more protected, and we can concentrate on running our business without worrying about email security. We see Vade as an important part of our growth—now and going forward.
